Privacy policy

You can browse the race list without an account, and open one race's page and run one search. To count those, we set one cookie, a random number that says nothing about you, and keep which race you opened and what you searched for against it for a year. Signing in makes the count unnecessary.

Your IP address is used to count how many races' Premium details you've opened in a day, and how often you describe a race or send a message, so no one address can copy the site. The count of races is kept for two days and then deleted; the rest is held in memory for at most a day.

Our host, Google Cloud, keeps a log of requests — address, page, time and browser — for about 30 days, for finding faults and abuse.

An account is your email address, when you made it and when you last signed in. There's no password. Signing in with Google gives us your Google account's email address and nothing else from it.

Signing in sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in for 30 days. Sign out everywhere, on your account page, ends every session the account has.

The number of races whose Premium details you open each day is counted against your account, and so are the searches you ask us to run for a course or results, to keep to the daily limits.

Premium is paid through Stripe. Your card goes to Stripe, never to us. We keep what Stripe tells us about your subscription: its plan, whether it's active, when it renews and whether it's set to end. Stripe's own privacy policy covers what it holds.

A message sent through the contact form is kept with the name and email address you gave, so we can answer it, and emailed to us through our mail provider, Resend. We keep a scrambled form of the IP address it came from, which can't be turned back into the address, to limit how many messages one sender can send.

When you describe the race you're looking for, the description is sent to a language model through OpenRouter to be read. It isn't tied to your account, and the answer is kept for an hour so the same description gets it again at once. Don't put anything in it you wouldn't want a third party to read.

Races near you asks your browser for your location, only when you ask for it. It's rounded to about a hundred metres, used in your browser to measure the distance to each race, and never sent to us. It's forgotten when you close the tab.

Your browser keeps your choice of miles or kilometres and what you set in a race's pace calculator, so they're there when you come back. They stay on your device; clearing your browser's data for the site removes them.

Google Cloud hosts the site and its database. Stripe takes payments. Resend sends sign-in links and forwards contact messages. OpenRouter, and the model provider it passes to, reads race descriptions. Google handles signing in with Google, if you choose it.

Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts and a race's satellite map from Esri's imagery service, which see your browser's IP address when they're fetched.

There's no advertising and no analytics or tracking service on the site. We don't sell or rent anything about you, or share it with anyone except as above or where the law makes us.

Write to us through the contact page from the address on your account and we'll send you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account and its messages. A paying account is deleted once its subscription has been cancelled; Stripe keeps its own records of payments, as tax law requires.

Wherever you live, you can ask. If you're in the UK or the European Union you also have the right to object to how your data is used and to complain to your data protection authority.

runfarwhere isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly keep an account for one. If you believe a child has made one, tell us and we'll delete it.

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects what we do with your account, we'll email you before it takes effect.
